This design, referred to as representing scorpions or crawdads, is a traditional symbol seen in Plains jewelry from historic times to the present day. Scorpion earrings are especially popular today with Southern Plains men dancers. Both men and women have worn them in the past. Ear wires are hand-made of nickel/Germansilver, and each sports a small brass "button".
